a village pub that does things properly.

About us…

The pub

The pub itself is full of history and used to be a farmhouse until it made the gradual change to a fully functioning Public House from around 1835. I think my favourite fact about the pub is that the kitchen used to be the pig styes! A far cry from how they look now you will be pleased to know. If a slice of the countryside with proper food, a great drinks selection and a lovely atmosphere is what you’re looking for then we are your spot.

the village

Laxton is a village absolutely steeped in history. It is the last remaining strip farming estate in Britain. Having recently been bought by local estate, Thoresby in 2020, the future looks to be very bright. The community love having the pub here and all show their support throughout the year. It’s a wonderful place to live and work and being a part of history makes it all the more worthwhile.

the team

The people in a pub are what help you stand out from the rest. At The Dovey we believe working in hospitality should be fun and lighthearted and in hand this keeps our team providing great customer service throughout the weeks, months and year. Dont take life too seriously! Our Head Chef Sam who has worked in 4* & 5* hotels around the country including Rudding Park & Wentbridge House alongside Sous Chef Sarah who has worked in a number of top restaurants and pubs around the county create menus based on seasonality and local availability to produce. We pride ourselves on serving ‘proper’ pub food with out the pretentious ingredients, rather using local ingredients with some dishes enjoying a foreign influence. We focus more on flavour and substance! This, coupled with our welcoming and warm Front of House Team, we deliver a great experience for you, our customers. We hope to welcome you to our beautiful haven soon.

During the first national lockdown we decided it would be a good idea to apply for the Channel 4 programme Four in a Bed! We featured in April of 2021 after filming in October of 2020 and since then it has been an absolute pleasure welcoming plenty of new faces to the pub. Long may it continue!

*Please note that this is now 3 years ago. If you are staying with us there have been changes amongst the kitchen team and within the room offering*

The B&B rooms have never been busier so we ask you to please book in advance to avoid disappointment.
